Cairo, “Al Qahira'' in Arabic means “The Vanquisher” is an ancient city that is also the Capital of Egypt, and the cultural and scientific capital of the Arab and Islamic world. Cairo is known for its older outskirts standing on the Giza Plateau with the world's most impressive ancient monuments, including the Great Sphinx, the Great Pyramids of Giza and a number of other large pyramids and temples. The city also encompasses various historic and touristic attractions as well as modern landmarks.
